The Rayner family purchased Hill House Farm in the 1940s, running it as a dairy farm until the late 1980s, when the dairy was sold off but the main farmhouse and brick barns were retained. We ran a B&B for 17 years before concentrating on self-catering holidays. We currently have a small livery yard of around 10 horses which we run alongside our Agricultural and Amenity Contracting Business.

I grew up in West Sussex and moved to Cheshire in the late 1990s when I met and married Nick, who was actually born in the farmhouse! I studied horses at college and ran my own riding school and livery yard before I moved to Cheshire. I now only ride for pleasure and to escort our daughter.

CHIRK COTTAGE

The Chirk Cottage is the original old Cheese Room for the farmhouse and luxuriously converted into a self-contained cottage sleeping two.  During Lockdown we have used the opportunity to totally refurbished this cosy Cottage.

The kitchen units have been painted in two different tones of blue to compliment the new curtains, rug and cushions.  We have updated the under counter fridge to a  small fridge/freezer, installed a new Smart TV and hard wired the Superfast Internet from the farmhouse to the cottage to improve the signal.

The Cottage is centrally heated by a Biomass Boiler, and has an easy-to-use ‘clearview’ log burner for cosy winter evenings.  All you have to do is throw the occasional log or two onto it.

We removed the old staircase as we felt it was too narrow and awkward for carrying bags up and down, so we have put in a lovely new staircase which leads straight up to the first floor bedroom from the entrance door.

The bedroom has recently been re-plastered, refurbished and redecorated, and is furnished with beautifully painted pine throughout, a new purple woollen headboard coordinates with the new curtains.  The bed is a 6ft ‘Zip & Link’ bed – which can be made up as a super-king double or split into twin beds.

The wonderful views of the rolling Cheshire countryside from the bedroom window in my opinion is the icing on the cake.

Chirk Cottage is semi-detached to the main farmhouse and has its own entrance, which leads through the yard to the car parking area at the front of the farmhouse.  The large gardens and paddocks surrounding the farmhouse are shared with guests staying in Chirk Cottage, there are a number of seating areas in the garden and surrounding area including table and chairs on a small patio outside the cottage.

THE COUNTRY LODGE

The Country Lodge is a luxurious three bedroomed single story wooden lodge. The Country Lodge benefits from a stunning open plan living area with a mezzanine landing above.

Equipped with a large ‘Clearview’ log burner to keep you cosy and a ‘Smart’ 3D television, a DVD player and Superfast Internet to keep you entertained while you stay.

All the bedrooms have en suite facilities, the master bedroom has a large walk in shower, one of the smaller bedrooms has a smaller walk in shower and the third bedroom has a bath with a shower above it.

The superior beds are all ‘zip and link’ so can be arranged as either a super king double or two single twin beds.

The Country Lodge has it’s own enclosed garden with views over the rolling farmland next door, and also over looks the adjacent new Dog Exercise Paddock.  We have planted 18 trees in one corner of this field and we mow a track around the edge so it is easy to wander around and enjoy the countryside – with or without a four legged friend.  There is a separate area at the top end of the field that is available for kicking a ball around.

We have a number of Ride-On toys available for the younger children to play with within the garden as the Lodge has a path all the way a round the outside, and has regularly been used as a mini Oulton Park style ‘Race Track’ for children with vivid imaginations!

We have taken the opportunity during lockdown to re-point the patio and re-paint the exterior of the Lodge to maintain its excellent condition.  We have also updated the television in the main sitting room to a Smart TV, so you can enjoy some home entertainment whilst staying with us.
